Dr. O’Brien grew up in Tamworth, Australia where his family owned and operated a sheep ranch. He spent many hours of his youth on horseback, from sunup to sundown, shepherding the flock in the Australian outback. This was not to be his life long career as he told his mother, at the age of 8, that he wanted to be a doctor. At the age of thirteen he visited his first chiropractor, was given a book on the philosophy of chiropractic, which he read, and the chiropractic seed was planted. During his high school years he played for the school rugby team, which was encouraged by his loving parents. In his junior and senior year of high school the rugby team won two national championships, which inspired him to pursue a professional rugby career. Rugby isn’t for the faint hearted, nor for those whom would like to have a functioning body into old age, which lead Dr. O’Brien to make a career change and move in the direction of his life’s passion, chiropractic healthcare.
Dr. O’Brien attended the University of New South Wales, where he graduated with a Bachelors degree in anatomy in 1993. His education continued at the University of Macquarie from which he graduated with a Masters degree in chiropractic in 1995. As fate would have it he moved to the United States, and settled in the beautiful state of Minnesota, where he received his doctor of chiropractic from Northwestern Health Sciences University in 1998. Dr. O’Brien continues his education by avidly reading current research. He makes it a priority to keep abreast of the most up to date studies, especially if it pertains to chiropractic, biomechanics, degenerative processes, nutrition, and wellness healthcare.
Dr. O’Brien’s life’s mission is to educate and help as many people as possible achieve their optimal God-given health potential through chiropractic care. Over the past 21 years, through hard work and commitment to this mission, his dream has become a reality. He opened the Discover Chiropractic clinic in 1998 and has been positive force for changing lives in the Burnsville area ever since. It has now become one of the leading health care clinics in the greater metro area, and the state of MN. Dr. O’Brien has been given the opportunity to serve thousands of people ranging from 1 day old to 95 years of age. A diverse and broad range of health issues have walked through our doors, and have achieved positive results where other medical plans have failed.
Dr. O’Brien allows his patients to contact him 24 hours a day, weather it is via e-mail or phone. He considers his patients an extended part of his family, therefore getting them well, and delivering excellent care is his number one priority. Dr. O'Brien resides in Burnsville, MN with his wife Andrea and son Jameson. In his spare time he enjoys fishing ( open water or ice), hunting, working out and traveling in his airplane. Dr. O'Brien loves to travel with his family and enjoys spending weekends at the family cabin in Wisconsin.
