Meet Our Director

Dr. Peter J. Szakacs, ("Dr. Pete" is how most people refer to him) has been a resident of The Villages since his new home in Sanibel was completed. He has had his wellness practice here  since he opened his office in Colony Plaza in February of 2012. In February of 2015, the practice moved to the Grand Traverse Plaza, and added the D/B/A name "Traverse Chiropractic and Wellness".

A brief overview of his background and experience is-

Dr. Pete graduated from high school near Pittsburgh in 1970, and attended the University of Pennsylvania as a pre-med student. In lieu of medical school(he actually considered attending medical school in Guadalajara, Mexico because of his Spanish speaking ability), he actually followed his childhood chiropractor's recommendations by attending chiropractic school.

He enrolled in Columbia Institute of Chiropractic (now New York Chiropractic College) and graduated in 1978. He entered private practice on Long Island, New York. Dr. Pete began expanding his expertise in natural healing methods shortly thereafter.

He first enrolled in a Masters Degree program in Clinical Nutrition at the University of Bridgeport in 1980. He got certified in Acupuncture by the International Academy of Clinical Acupuncture in 1981. Dr. Pete continued to expand his clinical expertise with certifications in Clinical Thermography, Diagnostic Ultrasound, and Physical Fitness and Sports Injuries. In addition, Dr. Pete has advanced certification in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, as well as the Evaluation and Management of Idiopathic Scoliosis.

While practicing in New York, Dr. Pete treated many athletes, including the New York Arrows soccer team, the New York Tech basketball and track teams, as well as many members of the New York Jets football team.

During his time in New York, Dr. Pete was also active politically. He served as President of the New York State Chiropractic Association, Nassau County Chapter. While in that position, he decided to challenge an antiquated law which restricted chiropractors' proper use of x-ray. That challenge resulted in his moving from New York back to his home state of PA. (To see a video detailing that lost chapter of NY chiropractic history, click here).

In 1982, Dr Pete moved to Pennsylvania to practice. There, he owned and managed a multidisciplinary, multi-doctor facility. During the years in Pennsylvania, Dr. Pete also served his alma mater, NYCC, as a regional recruiter and on the Board of Trustees for three years. Because of his involvement with The College, he was honored to be the subject a "Centennial Spotlight" during NYCC's Centennial Celebration in 2019. (click here).

In 2003, Dr. Pete sustained injuries in an auto which prompted him to sell his practice and move to Florida. After 2 years of an "extended sabbatical", he decided to open "Quantum Vitality Centres" in April, 2006.

Since coming "out of retirement", Dr. Pete has expanded his clinical expertise with some of the most sophisticated training available. In March of 2007, he completed his training in Nutrition Response Technique (NRT). NRT uses a combination of biofeedback and muscle testing to determine PRECISELY which supplements (and their doses) are appropriate for an individual. In November of 2007, he was certified in the technique of "Non Surgical Spinal Decompression". At that time, he became the first physician of ANY discipline in the Tampa Bay region to become certified in Decompression by an agency independent of equipment manufacturers. In April of 2011, Dr. Pete received his certification from AIMLA (American Institue of Medical Laser Application). It was at that time, that he added Deep Tissue Laser Therapy (Class4) to the practice. In 2012, he completed his training as a "Certified Posture Exercise Professional", with a focus on-

- Balance and Fall Prevention

- "Stand Taller, Live Longer"
