What To Expect

Laying the foundation

Chiropractic care is like building a house - certain things have to happen in a particular order in order for everything to stand strong and work correctly. When building a house, if you tried to put up your walls before you had a solid foundation, your walls would be weak and eventually collapse. If you tried to put on your roof before the walls were ready, you would run into the same problem. The same is true for your body. Your body has to go through a particular plan of care in order to repair itself correctly and fully. There are three general phases of chiropractic care . . .

Phase 1: Relief Care

If you are in pain when you come into our office, the first objective is to help you feel better. There is no "recipe" which gives the amount of treatments necessary. Every individual case is unique. The doctor will make treatment recommendations based on sound scientific principles including orthopedic, neurological and chiropractic tests as well as the degree of pain and disability experienced by a patient as determined by scientifically valid disability questionnaires. Most acute cases will begin with a visit frequency of 3-4 visits per week with decreasing frequency as the condition improves.

Phase 2: Corrective/Restorative Care

During the corrective care phase, muscles and other tissues are allowed to heal more completely, thereby helping prevent injury. Chiropractic care is like an exercise program for the joints of the spine. Each visit builds on the previous one to aid in restoring normal joint mobility, reduce nerve initition, relax muscles and reduce inflammation. Ultimately, how long you decide to benefit from chiropractic care is up to YOU.

Phase 3: Wellness Care

Many of our patients choose to benefit from the Wellness Care option. Once we have restored better motion and alignment to your joints regular chiropractic care will help you maintain these improvements. It is important to come in for periodic adjustments to counteract the mechanical stressors of your daily life. Usually, this only requires a quick visit to the chiropractor about once a month, based on your lifestyle and goals.

  • ""Dr. Benson is absolutely wonderful. I started seeing him at the very end of my pregnancy for back pain. Due to carrying a very large baby, as well as, hoping to aid in opening my pelvis in order to get labor going. Just 2 hours after my second visit early labor had begun and days later our little boy was born. I look forward to returning!!""
