Chiropractic Care

We provide advanced spinal correction and chiropractic adjustments utilizing "state of the art" chiropractic techniques. Never in the history of chiropractic care have chiropractors been able to provide the level of help and expertise that is available today. Many of the newest chiropractic techniques are actually safer, more comfortable and more effective than ever before. As a chiropractor who cares about utilizing the most advanced chiropractic techniques, Dr. Melinda Dillon has years of training, expertise and experience in helping patients get pain relief for back pain, neck pain, headaches, and other related conditions originating from the spine. Chiropractic care under a trained professional can even be used to prevent injuries and help you achieve total health or wellness.

Be Well on 39th Chiropractic uses a variety of techniques to fit the patients' needs. Dr. Melinda Dillon is highly skilled in the following chiropractic techniques:

Diversified- Diversified adjustments are the most common adjustments used in chiropractic clinics today. This technique utilizes very quick thrusts with precision and low amplitude, meaning the thrust itself only travels a very short distance, approximately less than an inch, and is applied at the exact plane of subluxation.

Sacral-Occipital Technique (SOT)- SOT is a technique developed by Dr. Major Bertrand DeJarnette, chiropractor/osteopath, over 73 years of his life. This technique uses indicators and a categorical system to find and treat the subluxation by focusing on the alignment of the beginning and end of the spine . This technique addresses both muscular-skeletal issues as well as organ involvement. SOT is very gentle. It makes use of large movements at a very slow pace. It also uses chiropractic blocks under the patient to shift the pelvis back into alignment. Dr. Dillon had the privileged to work closely with Dr. Ned Hesse who directly studied under Dr. Major DeJarnette himself. This technique is great for those who need a gentler approach.

resized_200x300_m3.jpgActivator- This technique use a tool called the activator. This technique uses less force but more precision and quick than diversified. Through leg-length analysis the doctor is able to run a complete scan of the body and find the subluxations that are causing imbalance. By using the activator at these points of subluxation the patient's body can return to normal structure and function.

Thompson- Thompson technique was developed over 50 years ago by Dr. J. Clay Thompson. This technique makes use of chiropractic tables with drops so when a thrust is applied to the area of subluxation that part of the table will drop a few inches giving the extra motion needed to correct the area. Because of the extra motion, the doctor doesn't need as much force to correct the subluxation. This technique also makes use of leg-length analysis to find all the areas of the body that are causing the imbalance.

resized_200x246_m14.jpgCox Flexion-Distraction- This technique is great for anyone who has a herniated disc or sciatica. It was developed by Dr. James M. Cox in the mid 1960's. Cox Flexion-Distraction mobilizes the patients body into repeated flexion. This movement opens up the disc space and allows the disc to expand putting less pressure on the disc itself, and the nerves that exit the vertebral column at that point. Freeling Chiropractic uses a highly advanced Leander flexion-distraction table for spinal decompression.

Graston- Graston is a soft-tissue technique that utilizes different tools and massage techniques to break down fibrous adhesions like scars or areas of chronic inflammation. This technique is used world wide by many different professions helping those with old and new soft-tissue injuries.

Intersegmental Traction- We uses a special intersegmental traction table to restore movement of the spine. This table is designed with rollers inside the table that run up and down the spine while the patient is laying down. The table also features a vibration setting to help loosen tight joints. Patients love using this table!

Soft-tissue Therapy- Freeling Chiropractic uses a variety of soft-tissue therapies including massage, stretching, isometric release technique, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, hot and cold packs, and cross-friction massage. This holistic approach of addressing the soft tissue with the chiropractic adjustment give the patient great pain relief.

resized_250x166_m23.jpgAcupuncture-The Chinese have been using acupuncture to treat all health conditions for over 2000 years. Acupuncture involves the stimulation of certain acupuncture points along certain lines on the body called meridians. This stimulation restores the normal flow of Qi which is the life force that resides in all of us. Balancing this energy can treat a number of health issues including but definitely not limited to nausea, headaches and migraines, sinusitis and allergies, appetite control, smoking cessation, and pain throughout the body.

Corrective Exercises

At Be Well On 39th, we teach our patients how to perform special "blueprint" exercises which can help strengthen and correct the irregularities in their body which may be causing pain. Many of these corrective exercises can actually be performed in the comfort of your own home to help improve the effectiveness of your chiropractic care and spinal correction plan. In addition to skeletal misalignment, you may be experiencing pain that is caused by muscles and connective tissues which are out of their proper place. Other types of pain such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches are caused by muscles and tissues that are being used improperly, causing injuries over time. In each case, targeted corrective exercises and stretches from our experienced chiropractor will help you feel good while also helping your body achieve balance and health.

Lifestyle Advice

Many of our patients come to see our chiropractor to address a specific pain symptom such as back pain, neck pain or headaches. While our chiropractor will address each patient's specific condition with chiropractic care, we often find it helpful to "coach" our patients towards achieving a healthier lifestyle. For example, there may be certain activities that you should avoid or do differently to prevent yourself from unintentionally aggravating your particular health challenges. The goal of including lifestyle advice with a chiropractic care plan is to help each and every patient achieve the fulfilling and happy lifestyle they deserve, one that is full of the activities that are enjoyed most. We recognize that every single one of our patients is a whole person, and we use our expertise to help them reach total health and wellness.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy does more than make you feel good, it can actually help your body achieve balance and health. Massage therapy offers a natural treatment approach which actually relieves musculoskeletal pain for many patients. Our chiropractic office provides specific massage and muscular therapy that is complimentary to their chiropractic care. Each massage therapy plan is tailored to meet the patient's unique pain condition or injury. The benefits of massage therapy may include the increase of blood circulation, a localized reduction in swelling and the relaxation of muscles. Massage has been known to relieve muscle pain and spasms, increase a patient's range of motion, while also aiding in a patient's recovery. Some investigative studies have even indicated that a single session of massage may help boost your immune system!
