Pinched Nerve

A pinched nerve is a common condition that occurs when too much pressure is applied to the nerve from surrounding bones, cartilage and muscles. This excess pressure causes nerve malfunction and may result in pain, tingling, numbness or muscle weakness. This condition can occur anywhere in the body, and most often affects patients with poor posture, osteoarthritis, those with jobs that require repetitive use of the hand or wrist, or patients who are obese. Treatment for a pinched nerve aims to restore nerve function and can be done through rest and chiropractic care.

How Can Spinal Decompression Help with Pinched Nerve Pain?

Many pinched nerves can be treated through a nonsurgical procedure called decompression, which relieves pressure on the spine and allows patients to function in their everyday lives without pain or other debilitating symptoms. This procedure involves separating the vertebrae to create a vacuum in between the targeted discs, a technique known as negative pressure. Negative pressure gradually relieves structures pressing on the nerve over the course of four to six weeks.

Soft compressible disks separate the vertebrate and provide cushioning for the spinal column. Over time, constant pressure can cause these disks to become worn and compressed. Spinal decompression is a procedure that relieves pressure of the spine, encouraging the disks to heal.
