TCC Recognizes Chubon, Fairey with Harper Awards

TCC Recognizes GREG CHUBON, BOB FAIREY WITH HARPER AWARDS

August 14, 2018 – PASADENA, Texas

The Texas Chiropractic College (TCC) Board of Regents honored Greg Chubon and Bob Fairey with William D. Harper Awards, the school’s highest accolade, on July 28 during the President’s Banquet at the 2018 Annual Convention.

Chubon and Fairey were awarded in recognition of their significant efforts to support TCC after Hurricane Harvey. Their efforts included a rapid response to protect the physical and financial resources of the college and personal financial contributions.

“It was an honor to present a Harper award to both Greg Chubon and Bob Fairey on behalf of the Board of Regents,” Dr. Stephen A. Foster, TCC President, said. “Their dedication to helping the college during Hurricane Harvey was instrumental in helping us recover.”

Chubon, Agency Partner at GSM Insurors, grew up in a small rural town in Pennsylvania.  He spent most of his childhood hunting, fishing and playing golf. Once he graduated from high school, he attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering. Upon graduation, he spent five years in the Army, attained the rank of Captain, and earned a Master of Business Administration.

Chubon currently runs his own successful insurance agency in Houston and has more than 30 years of experience in his field. He holds many insurance designations; is a licensed Risk Manager; and still enjoys to hunt, fish and golf when he can find the time.

Bob Fairey, Jr, Construction Manager at BFJ Construction, grew up in Texas City, the son of a respected home builder. Growing up, he loved to be on the water, fishing and surfing. After graduating from Texas City High School, he attended Southwest Texas State University to major in education. On Fairey’s first night in San Marcos, he met Sandee Land, who he dated throughout college and married after graduation. After college, Fairey taught Special Education in Clear Creek ISD and taught drivers’ education on the side.

In 1976, Fairey decided to leave education and, with the support of his father, began building homes in Texas City. He and Sandee worked together as their family grew with two sons, Jase and Kyle. Fairey was given an opportunity to make a shift to commercial work, specifically hospitals. As BFJ grew, his sons joined the company and made it a true family business. With Bob’s guidance, the company continues to grow across Houston and beyond. Now Fairey enjoys caring for his ranch, fishing and hunting with his grandsons.

The award is named for Dr. William D. Harper, president of TCC from 1965 to 1976, the College’s first 11 years in Pasadena after moving from San Antonio. A native of Texas who grew up in various locales in the Lone Star State, in Mexico and in the Boston area, he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering in 1933 and 1934 from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and his chiropractic degree at TCC in 1942. Prior to being named president, Dr. Harper was himself a member of the TCC faculty for 15 years.
