Overeating During the Holidays

Overeating During the Holidays

Can you keep your cravings under control?

Are you having whip cream on your pumpkin pie, or seconds of turkey and stuffing with lots of gravy?  It’s so easy to fill up the plate as we go to parties with coworkers and friends, spend time with family. There seems to be an abundance of food, dessert and alcohol as we celebrate the Joys of the season!

So, how do you avoid overeating with all the temptation? You may know people on a restricted diet who do not indulge and wonder what their secret is. There are many things to contribute to our desire for sweet and savory foods. Maybe we’re experiencing a great deal of stress and need to soothe our emotions. Maybe we are suffering with loneliness, boredom, sadness or fear during the holidays or simply that we just don’t feel full. Overeating can throw off the bacterial balance of our guts and the bacteria may determine how the food can be used, such as adding fat to your body or using the food to make more energy. The worst part about bacterial imbalance is not achieving weight loss.

Patterns of overeating are trained behaviors, as your brain wants a certain amount of dopamine to feel good and will look for ways to get the dopamine it needs. It will look for dopamine-inducing substances to reach the neurochemical reward it desires. Dopamine also enhances memory and mood, yet can also enhance your relationships and improve your tolerance to pain. Unhealthy foods including dairy products, high-refined carbohydrates, vegetable oils, diet soda, sweets and chocolates and wine all trigger a “feel good” response. Ways to support a healthy diet and promote weight loss during the holidays is to eat healthier dopamine increasing foods such as, fish, vegetables and fruits.

Keeping your stress levels under control can help manage your weight and body fat. We have a few key products that work well to help keep the dopamine levels up and the cravings down through the holidays.

Cortisol Manager

One of Dr Abrams’ favorite supplements is “Cortisol Manager”. You need 7-8 hours of sleep to break through weight loss resistance.

Not only can Cortisol Manager help you sleep better, but it keeps your stress levels in check, which means you do not increase your pants size.
