About Us

At Knoxville Spine and Sports, we take great pride in providing the finest chiropractic care to each and every patient. Under the care of Dr. Bert Solomon and his staff, all patients are assessed and evaluated on each visit in six different areas to customize a care plan tailored to your specific needs.

Your care will either be administered by Dr. Bert or one of our professionally trained staff members. Dr. Bert has over 15 years of experience as a chiropractic sports physician, and we provide the following care:

Chiropractic Care

Our team offers a comprehensive spinal correction plan, which starts with posture and spinal screenings, which can reveal important health information. We do in-office screenings and screenings at various community locations such as area malls, community events, health fairs and places of employment. Second, we teach our patients how to perform special "blueprint" exercises to strengthen and correct the irregularities in their body. We also find it helpful to "coach" our patients towards achieving a healthier lifestyle as part of the overall treatment plan. For example, there may be certain activities that you should avoid or do differently to prevent aggravation or re-injury.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy at KSS is offered by two McKenzie Certified physical therapists, both with a doctorate in physical therapy. Each visit is with your physical therapist and every effort is made to offer each patient an individualized plan of care. Our goal is an effective and functional treatment plan designed to reduce pain level and get the patient back to normal daily activities as soon as possible.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a technique used by Dr. Bert to reduce pain, increase the neurological influence to the affected area, calm muscle spasms and trigger points, as well as increase the healing rate. The procedure involves insertion of a very thin filament needle into your muscle directly at the location of your myofascial trigger point, a painful knot in your muscle.

These trigger points can be caused by arthritis, joint problems, poor posture, muscle overload, repetitive motion, or trauma. Dry needling works to deactivate the “hypersensitive” nerves; when the needle is inserted into the trigger point, a small muscle spasm called a local twitch response occurs to break the cycle of pain.

Deep Soft Tissue Massage

Massage therapy can relieve musculoskeletal pain. For many of our patients, we use a variety of specific massage and muscular therapy techniques that compliment your chiropractic care. Each massage therapy plan is tailored to meet the patient's unique pain condition or injury. Sports Massage Sports massage is a specific massage technique used to treat injuries. It is also a preventative treatment to assist muscle health and range of motion. It typically involves isolating certain muscle groups to concentrate on and break down muscle tension and adhesions.

E.L.D.O.A Training

The ELDOA exercises are specific stretching techniques created by the French osteopath, Guy Voyer, for the purpose of releasing physical tension in the myofascia and to increase space between joints and discs in the spine.

Personal training

Pat Hickey has an extensive back ground in "Quickness and Agility" training, and holds several esteemed certifications in the personal training community. Pat desires to help clients and or patients attain their goals and live a more balanced life. We exist to help you live life to the fullest.

Techniques and Therapies

Functional Movement Screen (FMS)

FMS is a grading system that documents your movement patterns crucial to normal body function. By scoring these patterns, Dr. Bert can look at body asymmetry and functional limitations that you may have. The score provides a baseline and is used to target problems. Corrective exercises are prescribed to restore functional movement, and the FMS score is used to track progress.

Spinal Manipulation

You’ve heard the saying--“an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”—and this old adage certainly applies to your spinal health. We provide advanced spinal correction and chiropractic adjustments utilizing state-of-the-art techniques that are more comfortable, safer and more effective than ever before. Spinal manipulation can relieve back pain, neck pain, headaches, and other spinal conditions.

Extremity Manipulation

Chiropractic therapy is effective for range of motion issues in the extremities as well as restoring performance to any athletes skill set. Examples are frozen shoulder and frozen hip or as benign as an athlete in a slump. Dr. Bert will evaluate your baseline range of motion, neurological function to the affected areas, and pain level to develop an in-office neuromuscular and skeletal rehabilitation exercise plan for you. The plan is designed to increase range of motion, restore the relationship between the nerves and the body, build muscle, and prevent muscle atrophy.

Active Release Technique (ART)

ART, or Active Release Technique, is a hands-on soft-tissue technique, which is effective for treating repetitive strain conditions and cumulative trauma disorders. ART involves soft-tissue manipulation to break up scar tissue (adhesions) that form after an injury.
