OUCH SEASON

Tis' the Season...For Inflammation.

From October until February every year I remind my patients to be careful not to catch the dreaded inflammation bug.   Without fail between these months, I see more injuries or flare ups from patients that have had no issues for months to years.

Remember from a few posts ago YAY FOR INFLAMMATION and  NAY to INFLAMMATION that one of the signs of inflammation is instability and loss of function?

It is for this reason during the Holiday Season of eating more foods like cookies, cakes and candies as well as indulging in more festive holiday drinks like hot cocoa, eggnog and wine that we allow our bodies to become more inflamed.   This leads to more global or systemic inflammation affecting multiple joints and muscles.

Our muscles are like pulleys.  They attach to the bones and make the bones move.  If the muscles are tight they in turn can become weak allowing for possible failure of the area being used.

With Halloween ending and Thanksgiving around the corner...take care of yourself so you don’t end up sidelined due to an avoidable sprain/strain.

In future posts I will discuss some of the more common issues I see during the Holidays.
