Benefits of Spinal Decompression Therapy

Spinal decompression is a technique that gently stretches the spine to alleviate pain in the back, neck, or legs and aid in the proper healing of degenerated, bulging, or herniated discs. This method is highly effective in treating back or neck pain resulting from degenerative or herniated discs, conditions like sciatica, as well as accidents or injuries. Over 80% of Americans experience lower back pain due to herniated discs, and spinal decompression can be beneficial in reducing this discomfort.

This a SAFE procedure, non-surgical mechanical spinal decompression is very safe. In fact, a recent study from 2016 comparing surgical vs. nonsurgical treatments for spinal stenosis "noted that the rate of side effects ranged from 10% to 24% in surgical cases, and no side effects were reported for any conservative treatment."

We are currently treating a patient with a 12.4mm disc protrusion who came into our office with severe pain and loss of mobility. He was referred out for an MRI which showed a large disc injury. We quickly got to work and began gentle manipulations along with the use of our new decompression table.  As a precaution, I had referred the patient to a spine surgeon who prescribed a surgical option, but the patient opted to continue with conservative care as he had already started to see positive results. After less than 10 treatments he's shown significant results and as of now he's not likely to need the surgery.

Advantages of This Innovative Therapy

On average, most of us spend significant time sitting, which can lead to spinal decompression, disc wear, and eventual degeneration. This therapy helps make your spine less prone to degeneration.

Are painkillers effective? Not really. While they only mask the pain, non-surgical spinal decompression naturally addresses the root cause of discomfort.

In contrast to spinal surgery, spinal decompression is non-invasive and does not require medications. It is efficient, with pain relief starting after just a few sessions, and there is no lengthy post-surgery recovery period, which can often last for months.

Patients with common issues such as sciatica, spinal stenosis, herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, and facet syndrome benefit greatly from this treatment. It offers a better natural alternative to drugs and, in some cases, surgery.

How many treatments are needed to see results?

Most candidates for SDT are suffering from chronic conditions that require long-term plans. Patients should expect a minimum of 18-20 treatments at an initial rate of 3 times per week for 4-6 weeks, then tapering down slowly.
