Hi,
I am Veronica Rogers. I'm a Licensed Acupuncturist. I joined Bay Chiropractic & Rehabilitation a few months ago and would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.  I received my Masters in Acupuncture in 2006. As a progression of my learning, I've enrolled in Doctorate Program of Traditional Chinese Medicine specializing in Internal Medicine with a focus on emotional conditions such as anxiety, depression and insomnia. Additionally I've been treating conditions such as headaches, infertility, digestive and respiratory conditions, and physical pain such as neck and back pain for years as part of my practice. I am a mother of two, and I understand the chaos of balancing modern day life and the practice the art of Chinese Medicine.

Stress, Anxiety and Acupuncture
COVID speed and scale has created great uncertainty and emotional disruption of an unprecedented scale. The stress and anxiety gets compounded as information is unavailable or inconsistent during these Corona times. Even if people get some communication, they feel unsure about what they know or anyone else knows.

Anxiety is a natural response of the body to stress and most definitely the uncertainty that surrounds us. It is most common form of emotional disorder, accompanied with constant and intense feeling of fear, insomnia, restlessness, panic attacks, stress and other.  Anxiety is a key element of several other disorders: phobia, panic disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), separation and illness anxiety disorders.

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) anxiety occurs due to excessive energy in the head. Anxiety can be successfully treated with acupuncture. The treatment is directed more on treating the patient on a deeper level, treating both physical and emotional symptoms and nourishing all the organs and parts of the body.

Acupuncture can help redistribute the patient’s energy, in order to  improve sleep and reduce worry. If there is depression, then it is presented with stagnant energy within the body.  Stagnation creates imbalances that lead to symptoms of depression, anger, melancholy, fatigue, inability to focus and a lack of inspiration.  Acupuncture helps by enabling the energy to move more efficiently, creating homeostasis, balancing the organ systems, helping the person to manage stress and steady emotion.

Acupuncture causes production of painkilling chemicals by the nervous system and stimulate the body’s own natural ability to heal and targets the part of the brain which controls the emotions,  including anxiety.

Acupuncture can slow the production of stress hormones and help the patients to have better quality of life.

Brain scans show that  acupuncture can normalize the information that reach the limbic system,  which controls the body’s “fight or flight” response.

With few acupuncture treatments it is possible to get to the cause of the anxiety and help  manage it.  When going through the treatments, patients may feel that the headaches go away, their muscles feel looser or their eyes start to water, which all are signs that the body is shifting  out of the sympathetic  dominance state. The aim of the acupuncture treatment is to bring the body back to a parasympathetic state where everything is slowed down and patients are not affected by stressful events. Most of the patients feel much calmer after each treatment, but for patients with chronic anxiety or deep rooted trauma more treatments would be needed than for patients with acute anxiety. With acupuncture, the whole body is treated and therefore not  only the anxiety is relieved but also digestion, sleeping and energy levels will improve as well.

If you are wondering if acupuncture is right for you, don't hesitate to call and ask for me, or set up an appointment and let's get started!
