These Feet Were Made for Walking!

These feet were made for walking.....

Yes we have heard it many times before. Make sure you get 30-40 minutes of activity a day. Keep your body moving.   The phrases can go on and on. But what I want you all to understand is what that really looks like......

Have you every tracked how much you move in a day. It’s sad, but most Americans are not even hitting 2000 steps in a day. Now you may be saying, wow! 2000 seems like a lot?!?! But guess what? 2000 steps is less than 1 mile!!  We as humans should be getting 10,000 steps a day which is closer to 5 miles!!!! That’s a big difference. But this does explain part of the obesity issue in our country. Many American eat fast food, are under tremendous stress and sit all day.   This is a the perfect storm for all kinds of health related issue ranging from Diabetes to heart disease.  However you can make a difference in how active you are everyday!!

First of all, make it a goal to get 30 to 40 min of intentional activity. That means,  cardio, weights something that will keep your heart rate up but also within your correct training zone.

Second, set timer on your phone to alert you to get up every hour. Most phones these day will also track your steps.  Make it a goal to walk around a minimum of 250 steps every hour. That is roughly 2-3 min of walking.  It’s a reachable goal!!

And finally, make a effort to take the steps instead of the elevator. For every flight of stairs you take you add 1 second to you life! Over time this will add up.

These are simple ways to increase how much you can walk in a day. The more you try, the easier it becomes. Don’t allow your health to be another bad statistic in our country because we as Americans have put our health on hold. The gift of health is too precious to let it just fade away.
