A friends daughter had twisted her ankle in a youth basketball game over the week end. She called and asked my advise. I told her to ice it and if the swelling persisted she should come in and get an x-ray of the ankle. She paused and asked " You have and x-ray machine?"
"Yes" I said
"You can read x-rays?" She asked
"Of course."
"Like in a doctors office?"
"Yes, I am a doctor , remember." I said
She was embarrassed and apologized, not wanting to offend me. I was not offended but I realized that most people don't know the majority of chiropractic offices do have in house x-ray suites and are educated in taking and reading x-rays. It is part of our core education. I guess it was my fault for not promoting the fact that we do take and read x-rays for our patients. We also send out for second opinions when needed. As do all doctors. Radiology is part of the chiropractic core education, and in my Arlington Heights Chiropractic Clinic I have and use a state of the art digital x-ray system. X-ray is a critical tool for diagnosis of osseous conditions. If soft tissue issues are suspected were refer out for advanced imaging like MRI or CT. Just food for thought. See you in the office
