Water is essential to life and to healing. But, many Minnesotans do not get enough water each day. There are many reasons to drink more water, and your next chiropractic adjustment is a key one.
“Seventy-Five percent of Americans may be functioning in a chronic state of dehydration, according to new research”
A Mayo Clinic study outlines the amounts each person needs as:
About 15.5 cups of fluids a day for men
About 11.5 cups of fluids a day for women
Many people know that if their urine is dark yellow, they are dehydrated. But there are other signs including:
Bad breath
Hungry
Headache
Grouchy
Brain drain (like the middle of the afternoon fuzziness)
Choosing water as your top beverage is a first step. And, the times you should drink water include -
During and between meals
Pre, during and post exercise
Anytime you feel thirsty
After a chiropractic treatment
You have probably heard Dr. Yearling or me remind you to drink water after your adjustment. This is because water helps to flush out impurities.
Your muscles store toxins, including lactic acid. This is what makes your muscles sore and feel like there is a knot inside. By drinking water after your bones and muscles have had a release from a treatment, your body will flush out the toxins quicker. Thus, the water helps you to avoid the soreness and achiness that comes along with injury.
If you are feeling like your muscles are sore and knotted, it's time to schedule an evaluation.
And, then, add a glass of water after the treatment. Your muscles will thank you.
