Boosting Immunity with Vitamins and Supplements

We know COVID-19 may not be done with us, but with lower positivity rates, more of us are getting out to see friends, attend events and enjoy more time in the community. But, that also means more transmission of other illnesses like colds.

Along with seeing the chiropractor, there are several vitamins and supplements you should consider taking to help to boost your immunity. Remember, your body is possibly being exposed to many of these germs for the first time in years. So, now’s the time to give your body a vitamin boost.

Vitamins and Supplements for Boosting Immunity

Vitamin D

Our skin will naturally produce vitamin D from the sun. But, let’s be honest, where do you spend your day? If you are like most of us, it is likely inside at work or school. Several studies have shown that vitamin D is important for bone health, cellular function, and immune health

Vitamin D3 has been shown to improve immunity. It is also linked to reducing cancer mortality and has different effects on depression.

Magnesium

Don’t stop at the vitamin D. Magnesium enhances vitamin D’s effects. It increases blood flow, which is key for aiding breathing.

Zinc

A crucial mineral needed for several body functions, Zinc is a great natural immune booster. Studies have shown that zinc helps the immune cells. But, many do not get enough zinc. Add it to your daily vitamin regimen.

Vitamin E

JAMA study found vitamin E supplements significantly reduced respiratory infections in the elderly, and in particular, the common cold. And, research shows it can help people of all ages.

Vitamin C

Looking to reduce the time you are actually sick? Well, vitamin C has been shown to do just that. One key point - the folks who benefited the most were those who regularly took vitamin C. So, don’t wait for the cold symptoms, add the C to your daily alphabet of vitamins.

NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine)

This might be a new one for you. N-acetyl Cysteine (NAC) is a semi-essential amino acid. And it becomes important for replenishing the powerful glutathione antioxidant in your body. See, amino acids help with chronic respiratory conditions, fertility, and brain health.

Black Seed Oil

Also known as Black Cumin Seed Oil, Kalonji Oil, or Nigella Sativa Oil, Black Seed Oil has a long history in natural medicine. It is often used in the treatment of several health conditions including asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure, and weight loss.

Quercetin

As you know, we always want to do all we can to boost our antibodies to fight infection; and Quercetin could help. It is the pigment that belongs to a group of plant compounds called flavonoids. Flavonoids are present in all those good foods like vegetables, fruits, grains, tea and wine.

Quercetin is used to help boost immunity, fight inflammation, combat allergies, and maintain general health.

Selenium

Continuing our quest for great antioxidants to boost immunity leads us to the essential mineral Selenium. Several studies show that it can:
