Back to School Checklist –Don’t forget the Chiropractic Check-up

The first day of school is just a few weeks away, and kids are stocking up on school supplies at area Burnsville, MN stores. Parents utilize summer vacation as the best time for dentist check-ups and physicals. But, have they scheduled a check-up for their child’s spine?

Parents want to send their children back to school and sports in their best condition possible. Backpack Safety

The increase in scoliosis and overall back pain in children can be linked to heavy and improper fitting backpacks. It is important to find the right backpack, fit it correctly and use it properly.

Backpack tips: 

  • The backpack should not weigh more than 10-15% of the child’s weight.
  • Wear the straps over both shoulders and
  • Use the waist and chest belts to support the pack more evenly.
  • Shoulder straps should be wide and well-padded.

Parents should observe the child’s posture. If you notice leaning to one side or forward, using one strap or overloading the pack, you should contact your chiropractor for a screening and assessment.
