Treatment for Painful Plantar Fasciitis in Omaha

If you often feel like you have a pebble in your shoe when there is nothing there, it is likely that you have a condition known as plantar fasciitis. Our chiropractors at West Omaha Chiropractic & Sports Injury Clinic can help you understand and recover from this painful condition.

What is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is a condition marked by minute tears in the surface of the fascia—a tough, thick ligament stretching across the bottom of the foot. These tears cause foot pain due to inflammation and that feeling of stepping on something hard and sharp.

These miniscule tears can be caused by a number of contributing factors. These include circumstances which cause excess strain on the fascia, such as being overweight, wearing high heels often, being on one’s feet for several hours daily, and wearing shoes with thinned or worn out soles and poor arch support. Other contributing factors include having an arch that is excessively flat or high, tight Achilles tendons—also known as heel cords—having an unusual gait, and trauma to the foot.

Plantar Fasciitis Symptoms & Diagnosis

Symptoms of plantar fasciitis are relatively simple and straightforward. The tears cause foot pain located in the center or front section of the heel. It is often exacerbated by standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time, walking, and exercising. A manual examination of the foot to locate tender points is generally all that is needed for diagnosis. However, the doctor may order simple imaging tests such as an MRI or X-ray to eliminate other probable causes of foot pain like a stress fracture or other serious condition.
