But you don't have to keep suffering from this potentially-debilitating issue - because West Omaha Chiropractic & Sports Injury Clinic can provide you with non-surgical solutions to your sciatica.

Man with sciatica pain needs chiropractic care.

Sciatic Nerve Pain and Other Symptoms

As a general rule, the biggest nerves in the body can create some of the biggest problems - and the sciatic nerve is the longest and thickest nerve in the body. This nerve attaches to the base of the spine through several nerve roots, extending through the hip and down into the leg before splitting off into all the lesser nerves of the leg and foot. Since th sciatic nerve is the conduit for all these lesser nerves' signals, compression of this nerve can cause malfunctions throughout the extremity. the resulting set of symptoms is known as sciatica.

The most common sciatica symptom is a sharp pain running through the leg, especially when you're sitting down. The buttock, leg, or foot may also experience "pins and needles," numb spots, or muscle weakness that could affect your balance and coordination. Low back pain may also occur.

While an acute accident that damages your spinal alignment or herniates lumbar discs can produce immediate sciatica, the condition more commonly shows up on its own as you age. Bulging discs, poor posture (encouraged by weak back muscles), awkward working conditions, and untreated chronic alignment errors can make you vulnerable to recurring bouts of sciatic nerve pain.

Our Team Can Take the Pressure Off

Any of our three chiropractors at West Omaha Chiropractic & Sports Injury Clinic can get to the root of your sciatica problem -- literally. A spinal examination can reveal points of impingement in one or more sciatic nerve roots, which can easily be impinged by alignment changes or injuries. Chiropractic adjustments can then bring your vertebrae and discs back into a more normal alignment, shifting them away from the nerve roots to relieve your symptoms without surgery or drugs. We may also prescribe corrective exercises to strengthen your back so you maintain a healthier posture, as well as weight loss or lifestyle changes to reduce the daily pressures on your spine.
