Sciatica Symptoms

Sciatica Symptoms

From your lower back through the hips and rear end, down to both legs, it is not uncommon to experience pain. This type of pain is known as Sciatica. If you are experiencing pain and you suspect it may be sciatica, contact Dr. Nathan Sehorn or Dr. Karen Campion at Campion Chiropractic Clinic. Being aware of these symptoms is the first step in managing your pain.  Our clinic has state of the art technology to reduce the chance of back surgery by offering Non- surgical spinal decompression and MLS cutting edge cold laser therapy.

Sciatic Nerve Pain

Pain in your nerves is one of the first signs of Sciatica. This type of pain feels like it is shooting through your body. It is not uncommon to only feel this pain on one side of your body. In some people, this type of nerve pain manifests itself as a dull ache to sharp stabbing pain. The pain is known to get worse while you are sneezing or coughing. You may feel like the pain is jolting through your body. Some patients describe the pain as “electric shocks” going into their hips and down their legs.

Inflammation

Another possible symptom is inflammation, along with swelling. The good news is that this can often be treated using over the counter medications. A chiropractor can also help reduce inflammation to your sciatic nerves and the pain related to it.  Spinal decompression, cold laser therapy, and soothing therapies are often a game-changer for most patients. Otherwise, you are likely to continue to suffer from worsening symptoms that keep you from your family and your job.  Along with these symptoms, you may also experience weakness and numbness in the affected areas. If you are experiencing numb legs, there is a chance it could be caused by a bone spur or herniated/protruding disc. These issues can lead to increased pressure on your sciatic nerve, causing acute and long-lasting chronic pain if left untreated.

Weak Muscles

Some people experience sciatic nerve pain as a result of weakened muscles, most often in the legs and lower back. Pain in these areas can make walking difficult. While this pain often clears up without medical attention, you should still consult with a doctor.
