Electrical Muscle Stimulation

The high frequency signals of Interferential Current (IFC) penetrate the skin into the deep layers of muscle tissue to get your back to a healthy, pain free state.

Electrodes are placed on your skin around the painful area. The Interferential Current unit then transmits electrical impulses in minute quantities through your skin. Underlying tissues and nerves are stimulated which starts the healing process. These impulses are not painful and felt as a minor prickle on your skin. Frequencies produced by the IFC have been proven to stimulate endorphins, the body’s natural pain killers which decrease or eliminates the need for medications especially when used in conjunction with a chiropractic adjustment to the involved area. The following are benefits of Interferential Current therapy.

*Reduces or eliminates pain, spasms, swelling and inflammation

* Improves circulation, muscle strength and coordination

*Stimulates your body’s natural pain killing hormones

*Excellent for acute or chronic pain relief

How the Interferential Current Therapy Helps

Interferential Current is beneficial for treating a broad range of musculoskeletal disorders (sprains, strains, joint pain, arthritis, edema) It has been in use for many years, and there have been numerous studies and research reports that have documented its treatment versatility. Patients who have utilized interferential current therapy have fewer post-op complications compared to people who rely exclusively on medications for pain relief. It also improves localized circulation and speeds recovery.

Common Questions

Are interferential devices safe?

Yes. The electrical impulses sent through your body are tiny. You will not experience any pain or discomfort. At most, you will experience a slight tickling or prickly sensation.

Is Interferential Current Therapy better than TENS?

Interferential current therapy is similar but a deeper form of TENS. The frequency is higher at 4000Hz from interferential current therapy compared to a TENS units lower frequencies of 5-160 Hz. The IFC provides a deeper level of stimulation without discomfort to the patient.

How does Interferential Current work?

Interferential current therapy is stimulation made by the interception of two electrical mediums of varying frequencies that work together to successfully stimulate large impulse fibers. These frequencies interfere with the pain transmission messages at the spinal cord level. Due to the higher frequency, interferential current meets fewer obstacles when crossing the skin to treat the underlying tissue.
