The Power of Positivity

By now, we all understand that affirmations are a powerful ingredient in positive thinking and success. They are not statements that you wish to be true; they are statements that over time we train our subconscious to believe are true. Once the subconscious believes it, it becomes a realized physical part of our lives.

Affirmations are positive statements describing a desired condition in your life. That condition may not yet exist, but the affirmation is spoken as though it does. A simple example might be: “I am at peace with my life.” This is repeated several times on a daily basis, out loud or mentally, the aim being to program the subconscious mind into producing the desired outcome. The trick is to sincerely feel them in the present tense with conviction and enthusiasm.

We carry out mental programming every day whether we know it or not; if we can learn to make this programming conscious and positive, we can effectively use it to create a much more positive and fulfilling life! The alternative is to be unaware that we are issuing negative affirmations to ourselves. If you have ever made a mistake and muttered “I am such an idiot” or "I'll never be able to do this", you have given yourself a negative affirmation. The problem is that any negative affirmation you give enters your subconscious mind and has a harmful effect – it creates your reality.  My 5 year old daughter is known as the can't police.  If she ever hears anyone say the word can't, she's instantly on their case.  "You can do anything you set your mind to" she'll say.

I strongly believe that positive thinking has the power to transform your life, and affirmations are the cornerstone of beginning and maintaining this successful transformation.  It seems simple enough, but technically it may not be that easy.  Reprogramming a mind that has suffered negative thoughts and affirmations subconsciously for years can be tough, but don't get discouraged-just get started!  Make up some positive affirmations that fit your certain situation and tape them to your bathroom mirror.  This will give you a pleasant reminder to keep focused and state your affirmations as often as possible.  Here are a few examples of some health and wellness affirmations that my family uses to get you started.

Again, I encourage you to come up with your own affirmations regarding whatever situation you are currently in.  It is truly amazing how guarding your thoughts can enhance your life at every level.  As the 'wise philosopher' Donald Trump says, "If you're going to be thinking anyway, you might as well think BIG."
