Coconut Oil: The King of Fats!

coconut-oil2.jpg

We hope you have not lost sight of just how nutritionally valuable coconut oil is! Due to its high saturated fat content, this oil previously — and mistakenly — came under attack. The facts are clear, however, that coconut oil has been used throughout Asia and the Pacific for thousands of years, both as a food supplement and as a medicine. Indian Ayurvedic medicine also gives this oil a top ranking. Research has proved that it contains a unique form of saturated fat that actually helps to prevent heart disease, stroke, and hardening of the arteries.

The saturated fat in this oil is unlike the fat that is found in meat, vegetable oils, etc. It is, rather, identical to a group of fats that are found in human breast milk. These “wonder fats” improve digestion, strengthen the immune system, and protect against bacterial, viral, and fungal infections. They can also help to pull metals, such as mercury, from the body.

Note, too, that the fats derived from coconut oil are now routinely used in hospital IV formulation, commercial baby formulas, and they are incorporated into some sports drinks to enhance athletic performance because of their energy- and endurance-boosting abilities. Refer to our Health Tip to read the reasons why coconut oil needs to be a staple in your kitchen.
