What's So Marvelous About the Acai Berry?

These dark purple acai berries, from the rain forest in Brazil — as well as other tropical locations — offer some amazing health benefits:

1. Antioxidant source: Contains anthocyanin and bursts with anti-cancer properties, inflammatory busters, sex drive increasers, and free-radical eliminators (especially in the brain).

2.  Essential fatty acids source: Omega-3, -6, and -9, which each play an important role in your health. (Omega-3s help keep your cells healthy, improve circulation and protect your memory. Omega-6s can help treat skin conditions, such as eczema, and aid in treating cancer. Omega-9s can lower your risk of heart attack and cancer.)

3. Complex B vitamin source: B2 and B3 are important to your health because they work together, so it is important to consume the full spectrum, which is exactly what you get in acai berries. The B vitamins help to supply energy to your body and may have memory-protective benefits as well.

4. Stem cell regeneration: Acai berries may help to regenerate new stem cells, which enable you to heal from injuries more quickly. Stem cells are important for the creation and maintenance of tissue cells, white blood cells, muscle cells, and nerve cells.

It is important to note that the skin of the acai berry contains the bulk of the nutrients, so eating the whole fruit, rather than drinking the juice, is the preferred way of using this superfood.  Finding the whole fruit in fresh form can be difficult.  Utilizing the whole food, raw, organic powder form is the best way to get your daily dose.  This one shown below by Sunfood is by far our favorite!
