Just Be

At the very end of yoga class this morning, our amazingly intuitive instructor reminded us during our final pose that we have many moments in life.   Some are wonderful high moments, and some can be low.  The point is that we seem to always be looking for the NEXT moment instead of either celebrating the moment we are in, or learning from it.   Just before class I had received some very sad news about someone passing away.  Typically, after class I hastily roll up my mat, and get on to the next thing on my agenda but today I decided to just see what would happen if I could just BE and allow the moments to come to me.  As I sat on my mat for an extra moment, I thought of this person who had passed and wondered if she had the chance to live in her moments.  I then thought back to the rushed morning getting kids bathed, fed, and off to school.  I realized that I didn't even spend one second living in those moments, I really just wanted the whole 'getting out the door thing' over with.  Right then and there I decided that today is the day I will make a point of actually taking part in every moment God gives me.  Actually being there, present for it, finding the joy in each experience whether I perceive it to be good or bad.  And to be grateful, truly grateful for the many blessings we have here in our country.  Remembering that as we concentrate on our blessings, we will actually see more blessings come our way.  Have you ever looked at the stars on a clear night?  If you look at them for a moment and then continue to look, more and more appear.  At first glance you see millions of them but if you just wait and take a little extra time to look, they seem to multiply.  I see life can be just like the stars.  When we take extra time to look at the good in our situations and just BE in the moment, the wonderfulness multiplies over and over again.  Don't take my word for it though, try it for yourself.  When you practice this in each moment, the blessings totally consume the little nuances of daily life, and we are left with moment after moment of love, joy, gratitude, and peace.  Notice I said practice.  I have been working on 'being' for a long time and I still find it a challenge.  Try not to get discouraged, set your intention for the day to do your best and when you get off track, just choose to get back on again.

If you feel like you are overwhelmed with a low point in life, in my opinion, the most important thing you can do is to find time for JUST YOU.  This is not selfish.  If you can find the time to relax, meditate, pray, be, you will see your time for others not only multiply, but it will become even more rewarding for you AND them.

I think the Beetles had it right when they sang:  "There will be an answer, let it be".
