Lower Back Pain

Did you know that at least 75% of all people suffer lower back pain and discomfort from time to time? Visiting our chiropractor here at Complete Care Chiropractic in Olathe KS can help. This is because the alignment of a person's lumbar spine is the cause of the lower back pain that many of our patients suffer from. With gentle chiropractic treatment and other painless adjunct therapies, lower back pain is typically reduced or eliminated, and range of motion is increased.

Common Causes of Lower Back Pain

There are a variety of injuries or conditions that might cause a person to suffer from lower back pain. Here are a few of them:

  • Musculoskeletal Issues: These are usually attributable to injuries. They might also be caused by heavy lifting or overexertion. Ligaments that help keep spinal vertebrae in place might become stretched or torn. As a result, a lumbar vertebra might become misaligned and cause a disc between two vertebrae to impinge on a spinal nerve. That can also cause painful muscle tightness or spasms.
  • Sciatica: This is a common condition that can cause considerably lower back pain and discomfort. The sciatic nerve is the largest, longest, and thickest nerve in the human body. It consists of five different nerve roots of the lumbar spine and sacrum. It runs from just below the hips on each side of the body and down each leg. If it's irritated or impinged upon, the pain will travel across the lower back, into the buttocks, down a leg, and often into a foot too.
  • Arthritis and Degenerative Disc Disease: The names of these conditions might be used interchangeably. They're commonly caused by the aging process. Spinal discs and cartilage wear down, and the facet joints of the spine begin grinding. Small nerves that were once protected are now exposed and cause pain. The condition is more common in women than men.

Chiropractic Care for Lower Back Pain

Chiropractic treatment doesn't involve medications or surgery. For purposes of treating lower back pain, our chiropractor's hand pressure will likely be used on the affected part of the spine to work on realigning it. Other therapies like massage, electronic muscle stimulation, or deep tissue ultrasound might be used in conjunction with chiropractic treatment.
