Types of Migraines

Although there are various kinds of migraines, most people do not understand the difference between them. Our team at Chaney Chiropractic Clinic of Beverly Hills recommends that you understand the different types of migraine. Doing so will help you seek proper diagnosis and get more personalized treatments when you experience the condition. Here are common types of migraines.

Migraine without Aura, Common Migraine

Migraine without aura is the most prevalent type. It's characterized by symptoms such as a throbbing pain that begins on either side of the head. When you experience this type of migraine, you will realize that moving the head around worsens the pain. Other symptoms you may experience include dizziness, nausea, and sensitivity to sound/light.

Migraine with Aura

This migraine can last between 4 and 72 hours. Unlike migraine without aura, this type causes the patients to experience visual symptoms such as flashes of light, blind spots, zigzag lines, geometric patterns, and other similar symptoms.

Menstrual Migraine

This type of migraine is prevalent among women during their menstruation. The disorder is triggered by hormonal fluctuations and occurs just before or at the onset of your cycles. It can be a migraine with or without aura.

Vestibular Migraine

30 to 50 percent of people suffering from migraines experience vestibular migraines. It has more severe symptoms that cause you to see unrealistic things, like the world spinning, seeing as if you are in motion when you aren't, etc.

Abdominal Migraine

Unlike other migraines that cause headaches, this kind of migraine causes extreme pain in the abdomen. Studies show that it's more prevalent among children than adults.

Chiropractic Care for Migraines

Our chiropractor employs various techniques when dealing with migraines. One of the most common treatment techniques is spinal manipulation which mainly focuses on your cervical spine. This method brings your body into a balanced state, which helps relieve migraine pains and hinder future migraines from occurring.

Our chiropractor can also recommend lifestyle changes to help eliminate the triggers. Additionally, we can also recommend herbal supplements, vitamins, and minerals.
