Myofascial Release with Our Chiropractor
Have you ever experienced muscle pain and tension that won’t go away no matter how much you stretch and rest? If so, it might be because you’re not addressing the right area, but myofascial release at Chaney Chiropractic & Neurology can help. Learn more in the guide below.
What Is Myofascial Release?
Myofascial tissue wraps around and connects the muscles to support them to assist with everyday movement. Sometimes when you experience muscle pain and tension, it’s not necessarily in the muscles themselves. Instead, it stems from stiff trigger points in the myofascial tissues. Myofascial release is a method used in chiropractic care to address trigger points and provide relief.
Causes and Symptoms of Myofascial Pain
Many of the same things that create muscle pain can contribute to the development of myofascial adhesions, such as poor posture, overusing the muscles, or injuries. They can even be due to inflammatory responses to medical conditions. You can typically tell that your suffering is due to myofascial issues through the following symptoms:
- Poor sleep
- Headaches
- Posture issues
- Fatigue
As these symptoms often appear with other conditions, the best way to diagnose the root cause is to visit our chiropractor.
How Is Myofascial Release Performed?
Myofascial release, also called trigger point therapy, can be a targeted massage. However, the focus is not on relaxation but on relief.
Our chiropractor will start by identifying tight areas in the myofascial tissues. Then, they’ll apply gentle pressure, kneading, and stretching movements. This procedure will continue until the tightness is gone, at which point our chiropractor will move on to other tight areas. This attention to detail can help address more than muscle soreness, such as the following:
- Treating joint pain
- Increasing blood flow
- Enhances the body’s recovery
- Improving muscular performance
- Decreasing stress in the body
Is Myofascial Release Painful?
It’s possible to feel some discomfort, especially in the beginning. These trigger points are known for inducing pain. However, our chiropractor will not use a significant force. Instead, everything is done as gently as possible, reducing discomfort. You might also be sore in the treated areas after your session, but that should not last long.
