Chiropractic Treatment for Sciatic Nerve Pain

What is sciatica?

The sciatic nerve exits the spine and extends through the buttock and then down a leg. It carries sensations for the skin on the leg, the muscles at the back of the thigh, and the muscles of the lower leg and foot. Sciatica is a condition where the sciatic nerve is irritated or compressed resulting in pain in the back, hips, and the back side of the thigh and leg.

The loss of nerve function can also affect the bowel and bladder, and some people with sciatica have muscle spasms in the back and legs. Sciatica can be caused by a herniated disc or entrapment of the sciatic nerve around the pelvis. It is common to have surgery for sciatica but your chiropractor can also help.

What can my chiropractor do about sciatic nerve pain?

About 90 percent of people who have sciatica need chiropractic adjustment to get one or more discs in their lower back in line to take the pressure off the sciatic nerve. Your chiropractor can also relieve pain without aspirin, Tylenol, alcohol, opioids, steroids, surgery, or injections. Just about everyone who has sciatica comes in for pain relief, and your chiropractor makes that a priority. The chiropractor will help you get past that pain by using spinal adjustments, traction, TENS (transcutaneous electro neural stimulation), and easy exercises. Your chiropractor can even help you strengthen your back or get you to avoid things that irritate your condition preventing the pain from coming back.

You don't have to live with sciatica nerve pain.
