Carpal Tunnel

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome & Wrist Pain

When the median nerve in the hand is put under too much pressure, carpal tunnel syndrome can result. The passageway in the side of the hand is known as the carpal tunnel. This area has bones and ligaments surrounding it near the palm of your hands. The compression of the median nerve causes several sensations in the hand, the best-known of which is wrist pain that is the hallmark of this condition. At South Bay Wellness Center, we can help with carpal tunnel syndrome.

The Symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Tingling in the hand as well as the arm are possible symptoms of this condition. Sufferers may have numbness in the hand or arm. There may be tingling in one part of the hand and numbness in another. Often, the thumb and some of your fingers are affected as well. The thumb is often affected by this syndrome, but the little finger is not. In all of the other fingers, there may be a feeling of shock as if the hand had been hit with electricity. Some of these feelings will start at the wrist and travel up the arm.

The syndrome may also make the hand and/or arm feel weaker. If you notice that you are dropping things often, it may be from some of the muscles in the thumb becoming weaker, as it is the median nerve that controls these muscles. All of these symptoms may come on gradually and may not be noticed until they impair the function of the hand.

A Chiropractor Can Treat Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

If you have recently experienced any of the above symptoms, you may need chiropractic treatment. A chiropractor can reduce the pressure on the nerve and reduce or eliminate your symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome. If you live in or around San Jose, Campbell, Cupertino, or Santa Clara and believe you may have carpal tunnel syndrome, call South Bay Wellness Center today at (408) 244-6555 to make an appointment.
