Spinal Decompression

Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression at Askenas Chiropractic

Compression of spinal nerve tissue can cause a variety of neurological symptoms, none of them pleasant. If you're suffering from issues with an arm or leg, you may be one of the many people who struggle with some form of spinal nerve impingement. But chances are that you don't need extreme treatment techniques such as spinal decompression surgery. Here at Askenas Chiropractic, we can administer non-surgical spinal decompression therapy, taking the pinch-off of those nerves and permitting you to enjoy life again.

Causes and Symptoms of Nerve Impingement

Your spine is more than just an articulated scaffolding for your upper body; it's also the communications hub between your brain and the rest of your body. The vertebral bones wrap around the spinal cord, with small openings for the major nerve roots to exit. These nerve roots feed signals to major nerves such as the sciatic nerves, which in turn relay the signals to the many smaller nerves of the body.

Unfortunately, the proximity of the spinal cord and nerve roots to the other structures in the spine set the stage for potential nerve impingement. When any of these structures are pushed up against the nerve tissue, nerve signals can't flow normally. As a result, various parts of your body may send or receive incorrect, incomplete, or scrambled sensory/motor data. This can lead to tingling, muscle weakness, numbness, or pain in the area served by that nerve tissue. If, for example, your nerve impingement occurs in your cervical spine, you may experience the symptoms in an arm or hand. If the impingement is happening in your lumbar spine, those symptoms may be felt in a leg or foot. Common causes of nerve impingement include:

  • Spinal stenosis
  • Bulging discs
  • Herniated discs
  • Chronic or acute spinal misalignment

A Safe, Natural Complement to Chiropractic Care

Askenas Chiropractic can spare you need to relieve your spinal impingement through major neck or back surgery. We use an advanced, non-invasive treatment method known as spinal decompression therapy. As you relax on our digitally-controlled treatment table, the table applies a flexion-distraction force to your spine. This gentle force increases the space between your vertebrae just enough to create negative pressure. This negative pressure then pulls bulging or herniated discs back into their usual position. Spinal decompression makes a great complement to chiropractic care, especially if your disc problems are related to larger spinal alignment issues.
