So, here's the follow up on my cholesterol saga.
As mentioned in the last blog, even though I got a great lab report from Dr. Bush's office, the Life Insurance people wanted to run their OWN labs! I went back to Dr. Bush and asked him to pull all the plugs on the cholesterol lowering efforts and here was his advice to me.
1. VEGAN diet - "get back on it and stick to it"
2. Vitamin E - A new study came out on its cholesterol lowering benefits. He had me taking 800mg, 2 times per day.
3. 24 hour fast before the testI ended up doing it for 36 hours.
Here are the results of the most recent labs.
Total Cholesterol; 186 - that's a total reduction of 67 points! (range is less than 200)
HDL (the "good cholesterol) ; 62 (range is 35-80)
LDL (the "bad"): 107 (range is 0-129)
Ratio: 3.0 (range is less than 5.0)
Here's what Dr. Bush had to say. "Rockin! the combination of the Vit E and the Fast ratcheted it down hard, but this is also just reflecting continued vegan life - Mirkin - the guy who started it all in the 70s was eventually able to get his LDL cholesterol down to 30s - longer and leaner you go the better it will get."
So, I look great on paper as far as the Life Insurance people are concerneddoes that actually translate into a lower heart disease risk?
I'd love to hear your comments.
