Cupping

Now offering cupping therapy! Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine that involves suctioning the skin with glass, plastic or silicone cups. There are many benefits of cupping including removing toxins from the body, pain reduction, easing of muscle spasms, improving blood flow and many others.

The oldest medical texts that mention cupping therapy is Eber’s papyrus (1550 B.C) from Ancient Egypt, even though cupping is a part of many ancient healing systems, including Chinese, Unani, traditional Korean and Tibetan. These days, cupping therapy is usually found as a treatment in Traditional Chinese Medicine. This is because suction helps facilitate the flow of “qi” in the body. Qi is a Chinese word meaning life force.

Cupping increases blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed. This may relieve muscle tension, which can improve overall blood flow and promote cell repair. It may also help form new connective tissues and create new blood vessels in the tissue.

With dry cupping, the cup is kept in place for a set time usually between 5 and 10 minutes. Any discoloration or marks usually go away within 7 days of the session. Patients like to add cupping to their wellness schedule and can be performed up to three times a week.
