What Are Trigger Point Injections?

A trigger point injection (TPI) is an outpatient procedure designed to reduce or relieve the back pain of trigger points. These small knots can form in muscles or in the fascia tissue.

A TPI is an injection of local anesthetic, with or without steroid, into the trigger point in the muscle. A trigger point is a band of tissue within a muscle that, when pressed, causes your typical pain.
