Chiropractic Care

Back pain is one of the most common types of discomfort that humans experience. In fact, it’s practically universal and is experienced by nearly everyone at one point or another. But when back pain becomes a persistent issue, it’s clear that you’ll need to seek help.

Often, patients feel as though they have no options. This is largely because many doctors run out of options quickly. But before you start seeking out surgery, it’s worth looking at other treatment options for back pain. You may be able to find relief and reclaim your life.

The Body and Lower Back Pain First, it is worth understanding the basics of anatomy in order to fully understand just what kinds of causes there are for back pain.

The spine is made up of a few things:

  • Ligaments
  • Nerves
  • Muscles
  • Small bones known as vertebrae
  • Intervertebral discs

The vertebrae in the back form a canal, within which the spinal cord is housed. There are three curves found in the back, and in the lower back specifically there are vertebrae joined together. Between each section of vertebrae are discs that act as a kind of cushion for the bones, keeping them from grinding against one another.

Common Causes Of Back Pain Lower back pain has many different causes. However, issues with the anatomy are the primary factors. Things like a bulging disc – also called a disc herniation – are among the most common issues. Here are some of the main causes of lower back pain.

  • Disc Injuries – When a disc slips from its proper location or swells, it can press against the nerves around the spine. This may occur due to physical injury.
  • Strenuous Activities – Overactivity can cause muscles to overstretch, which in turn can lead to a bulging disc.
  • Age – Over time, the body simply loses some of its strength. Disc degeneration can occur, as can changes to the bone structure. When this happens, it can lead to a bulging disc.
  • Disease – Diseases like cancer, arterial disease, spinal stenosis, and more can all cause a disc herniation or other forms of back pain.

Getting Relief For Lower Back Pain In order to get relief from lower back pain caused by issues like a bulging disc, you have a few options. It’s important to look at each and consider the pros and cons before you commit to one course of treatment, but some of the main options available include:

  • Physical therapy
  • Chiropractic care
  • Medicines
  • Surgery

Of these, chiropractic care and physical therapy are among the most beneficial. Surgery and medication can carry many risks, and the noninvasive solutions offered by chiropractic or physical therapy are far safer, more affordable, and effective when you suffer from any kind of back pain.
