The majority of data is showing that running does not cause or exacerbate osteoarthritis. In fact some studies have shown that running may actually help prevent degeneration. 


However, other studies show that distance runners have a lower extremity injury rate of 79%. This means that distance running can be good for the body and the spine. This high rate of injury also makes it important for distance runners to take care of their body and make sure that they are running with a proper running form. 


In this video Dr. Tim Bertelsman of ChiroUp shows some helpful tips that runners can look out for to improve their efficiency and decrease their chance of injury. While in the process of making these changes make sure to only increase your distance by 10% so your body can adjust to you new more efficient running stance.
