Services & Techniques

At Swickard Chiropractic, we serve individuals and families, offering relief, corrective, and wellness chiropractic care that is customized to your individual needs. We utilize a variety of treatment methods to give you the best care. Through an individualized program of education, gentle and specific chiropractic adjustments, various soft tissue treatments, and rehabilitation exercises, we can correct spinal misalignments (subluxations) and improve the body's innate healing abilities. Without this interference, overall wellness is achieved and maintained.

Chiropractic Care

Our doctors are trained in a variety of manual adjustment techniques including Gonstead, Diversified, and techniques from the Motion Palpation Institute. They also utilize gentle, instrument assisted manipulation with an Activator. All techniques assess the movement of the spine and extremities through palpation and movement analysis to look for areas of joint dysfunction, or subluxation. Poor posture, injury, degeneration, and altered movement patterns can all result in subluxation.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient healing art used in Chinese medicine that was developed over 5,000 years ago. Needles and/or electrical stimulation are applied to various points (over 361) throughout the body. These points help restore the flow of energy or "qi", along the neurological channels called meridians. Each of the 12 meridians is associated with an inner organ, system, or metabolic process in the body. When the body's energy pattern is too high or too low it creates an imbalance that leads to health problems. Treatment using acupuncture needles or electro-acupuncture stimulation helps re-balance the energies, creating homeostasis and allowing the body to promote health and self-healing. Read more here.

Acupuncture can be used for a variety of conditions including muscle and joint pain, allergy symptoms, stress and anxiety, infertility, male and female hormone related issues, addiction, shoulder pain, foot pain, and more.

Spinal Disc Decompression Therapy

Decompression

Disc Decompression

Spinal decompression is a non-surgical alternative for treatment of neck and back pain and associated conditions like sciatica, pinched nerves, bulging discs, or degenerative disc disease. The traction gently stretches the spine, reducing pressure from the discs, nerves, and joints, while enhancing the body's natural healing process.

Electrical Muscle Stimulation

IFC

Small amounts of electrical impulses are sent into the muscles and soft tissues over the site of injury to promote healing, relieve pain and reduce swelling. Four pads are typically attached to the skin where the impulses, described as a "pins and needles" sensation, help soothe achy muscles, stimulate the release of the body's own natural pain killers (endorphins) and increase blood circulation to the area.

Intersegmental Traction

This therapy is a very comfortable therapy used to stretch out tight spinal muscles and joints to help improve function and mobility of the spine. It also helps exercise these associated supporting muscles and ligaments of the spine to allow your adjustments to hold better and last longer. The patient lies face up on a bench-type table while rollers move up and down the spine in a circular pattern. The circular motion of the rollers helps improve the blood supply to the area allowing the surrounding spinal joints and discs to get the necessary nutrients needed for proper function. Decreased circulation can cause abnormal wear and tear to the spine resulting in disc thinning and degeneration, often referred to as arthritis.

Custom Foot Orthotics

An orthotic is a device designed to restore your natural foot function. Many biomechanical (walking) complaints such as heel pain, knee pain, and lower back pain are caused by poor foot function. Orthotics help provide support and re-align the foot and ankle bones to their neutral position, thus restoring natural foot function. In turn, this helps alleviate problems in other parts of the body. Orthotics also help evenly distribute weight, taking pressure off sore spots (ball of the foot, corns between toes, bunions, etc.), and help provide some shock absorption.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)

IASTM (also known as Graston Technique) is used to efficiently locate and treat soft tissue dysfunctions caused by scar tissue, chronic inflammation, acute injury, or degeneration. This technique breaks up adhesions or “knots” in the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia, allowing for decreased pain, improved range of motion, and faster recovery after an injury. IASTM is a great treatment for sprained ankles, tennis or golfer’s elbow, plantar fasciitis, shoulder pain, and much more!

Cryotherapy

Ice is applied to the injured area to help reduce swelling and inflammation, muscle spasms and numb the affected area. This cooling effect helps reduce and prevent post-traumatic swelling for an acute injury and also helps decrease nerve transmissions of painful symptoms, providing temporary relief. Ice is often used with electrical muscle stimulation for added benefit and to aid in healing.

Moist Heat

Moist heat is applied using hydrocolator packs (silicone-filled pouches soaked in hot water to hold heat). This helps promote increased circulation, relaxation of tight muscles, and increased flexibility. Moist heat is typically used on chronic pain, muscle disorders, and during the rehabilitative phase of treatment to help accelerate the healing process. It is also often used with electrical muscle stimulation for added benefits.

Nutrition and Supplements

Nutritional counseling appointments are available to assess your particular needs. We offer high quality supplements specifically formulated to work with and bring metabolic balance to your body. We also have cleansing systems and analysis of any specific dietary needs available. We carry a variety of supplements in the office but can specialty order supplements to fit your needs. Our staff is happy to provide additional information.
