Dr. Taylor's Story

HA1.jpgWhen I was 15 years old, I developed bad neck pain and pain between the shoulders that wouldn’t stop. At first my parents thought that it was because I was young, growing fast and that it would ‘just go away’; but it didn’t. It got so bad that I would get jolts of pain shooting down my arms anytime I tried to hold something. I would have to lay down on a pillow wedged in my back after sports like snowmobiling, I couldn’t concentrate well in school since I was always fidgeting around to relieve some of the pain. My mother took me to an M.D. who gave me painkillers and said I'd grow out of it. That did not help and the pain persisted.

Fortunately, my mother had been to a chiropractor years before to get relief from her lower back pain when she was pregnant. I say fortunately because a lot of people are scared to go to a chiropractor and won’t even consider going because of their fear. I went to my mother’s chiropractor. He did an exam, took an x-ray, and explained that my spine was out of alignment, irritating the nerves in my neck and arms. That was the problem. Then he ‘adjusted’ my spine. The adjustment didn’t hurt, it actually felt good. I felt relief and could actually turn my neck and body without pain. It took some time to correct the problem but it worked. But, tell me, what if I had just kept taking painkillers or anti-inflammatories? How long would I have been able to keep covering up the problem without suffering side effects from the drugs? You see, I wasn’t content with what traditional medicine had to offer me.

It didn’t stop there. During my first year of engineering at university I developed severe lower back pain and radiating leg pain. I could barely walk without getting sharp, electrical-type pain shooting down my leg. I had to quit my part time job at Safeway for three weeks because of the pain. I returned to my chiropractor for help. He was able to quickly find the source of the pain and then he began making adjustments. It took several visits to the chiropractor, but the pain went away and I was able to return to my active life. It worked so well that I eventually left engineering and went to chiropractic college myself.

It’s strange how life is, because now people come to see me with their headaches, migraines, chronic pain, neck pain, shoulder/arm pain, whiplash from car accidents, backaches, numbness in limbs, athletic injuries, just to name a few.
