Acupuncture

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine that is most commonly used to treat chronic pain, though it is also used to treat a wide range of conditions. Although acupuncture has been around for over 3,000 years, it has only gained acceptance and understanding in the United States in the last 40 years.

Acupuncture involves the insertion of sterile, disposable, ultra-fine needles into the skin at specific points on the body to maintain balance through 14 Major Energy channels or Meridians.  Chi (pronounced Chee) also known as Life Force, runs thru these meridians to promote balance within the body. When Chi can flow freely, health abounds. If this energy becomes deficient or blocked, then the effects will result in loss of energy and the deterioration of well-being. Acupuncture encourages your body’s natural ability to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. The method by which this is accomplished, though it may seem strange and mysterious to many, has been time tested over thousands of years and continues to be validated today.

Why use Acupuncture?

Scientific studies have shown that acupuncture can regulate metabolic pathways and naturally mediate many physiological activities.  Acupuncture increases circulation, relieves muscle spasms, and stimulates the body’s immune system. Acupuncture is recognized by the World Health Organization to successfully treat:

  • Neck and Back Pain
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Anxiety, Depression
  • Insomnia, Stress
  • Headaches, Migraines
  • Joint pain
  • Tennis and Golf Elbow
  • Weight Loss
  • Disc Herniation and Bulges
  • Menstrual Irregularities, Amenorrhea, Dysmenorrhea
  • Infertility
  • Gastro-Intestinal Disorders, Constipation, Diarrhea, IBS

Does Acupuncture hurt?

No.  Acupuncture needles are exceptionally thin and insertion of the needles does not induce pain.  If the needle is placed properly, the patient should feel a mild heaviness, distention, tingling, or electric sensation. It’s a sensation not a pain.

Why Lakewood Chiropractic?

The combination of chiropractic care and acupuncture is one of the most effective combinations to treat chronic pain and other health conditions. Dr. Steven Warfield, who has been a chiropractic physician for the last 36 years, recently spent over a year studying and mastering acupuncture techniques and is now certified in acupuncture in the State of Florida. Why did Dr. Warfield spend all of this time and energy learning acupuncture? The reason is simple; he knew that his patients could benefit from the effective combination of chiropractic care and acupuncture.
