Acupuncturist in Kansas City Helps Gout Patients With Quick Relief
Suffering from a gout attack right now? Is your big toe swollen and painful to the touch? Are you guarding your big toe, ready to scream at the first person who bumps it?
Gout can be extremely painful, and results from an increase in uric acid in the body. Most commonly it attacks the joints of the big toe, but can show up in other joints as well.
I just took care of a gout patient yesterday, and they noticed improvement immediately after their treatment.
In my office we use the
Acugraph to determine where the energy of your body is out of balance. Here is an example:
Commonly, I see the spleen meridian is out of balance when a person is experiencing a gout attack. As you can see above, the Spleen meridian (SP) is low as noted by the blue color.
Using a combination of the Acugraph recommendations and clinical experience, I have seen many cases of acute gout attacks start to resolve before the patient has even left my office. The big toe joint is usually less swollen and less painful during the Acupuncture treatment, and continues to improve even after the patient has left my office.
In addition to receiving Acupuncture for an acute gout attack, it is always critically important that patients adjust their diet. High purine foods like shellfish, organ meat, red meat, sardines, anchovies and beer should be avoided. Water intake should also be drastically increased. I recommend 1 quart per 50 pounds of body weight per day.
I cannot stress enough the importance of dietary modification to help decrease the current gout attack as well as decrease the risk of future gout attacks.
If a patient starts to have repeat gout attacks, they may have to go on a maintenance medication to avoid long term joint deformity and repeated painful gout attacks.
