Tucson Chiropractor  Jim Westerman, DC

My introduction to chiropractic is a bit unusual. "I had never heard the word 'chiropractor' until my wife's friend recommended she consult one for relief of her chronic headaches," remembers Dr. Jim Westerman.

My wife had taken over the counter medication without much relief but after only two chiropractic treatments, her headaches were gone. This was truly amazing to me. During one of her appointments, I talked to her Chiropractor and he educated me how the body was designed to be healthy but when the nerves become irritated it can produce all sorts of symptoms, with headaches being one of them. Without addressing the cause, the symptoms will return which is why medication doesn't solve the root of the problem."

After my military service, I received my degree in Education and not long after that I started Chiropractic College. God really does works in mysterious ways. Once a licensed Chiropractor in 1983, I began practicing in Seattle and continued there for 15 years until we sought the sun and moved to sunny Tucson in 1998. I have always had an interest in continuing to broaden my knowledge throughout my career. I became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician, and have extensive hours of study in Chiropractic Orthopedics, and auto accident injuries.

Our goal is to help NW Tucson, Oro Valley, and Marana residents achieve optimal health.

My heart goes out to people in pain and that's why our mission is to help people achieve a pain free, healthy life through conservative health care. Health is a state of optimal physical and mental well-being. We at Chiropractic Northwest enjoy working with motivated individuals who recognize it takes a willingness to change and realize it requires making a commitment to achieve optimal health and wellness.

I have been married to my wife Kim since 1977. We have three grown children we are very proud of and now we are enjoying our grandchildren as well. Our family has been very active in fitness and sports. I have a passion for Handball and have played competitively since college. Kim taught fitness at the local high school for nine years and retired early to join the practice as Office Manager. My family and spiritual life are very important to me. I strive to be an example of the grace God extends to me, and a good steward of the blessings God has given me.

I believe that it is essential to be in the best of health for my family, my patients and myself. I watch my diet, get enough rest, exercise 5-6 days per week and get chiropractic care from colleagues on a regular basis.

Over utilization of medication, both prescription and over the counter, is a great concern of mine. Don't get me wrong, there is a time when medication is needed however, many people use it to alter or eliminate their symptom without influencing the underlying cause. One of the greatest tragedies I see regularly is with retired people. We plan for our golden years to be one of having time to enjoy leisure activities and the fruits of our labor. It is common to be forced to give up golf, travel, hiking, or gardening because the body is unable to tolerate those activities any longer. The sooner health issues are addressed the better you will feel now and in the time to come.
