What is Plantar Fasciitis?

This condition affects the large tendon that runs down the middle of the foot. This tendon is called the Plantar Fascia. This large, thick piece of tissue acts as a band to bind together the muscles and joints of the foot. If this tissue becomes inflamed, injured, or knotted, it can start to cause tremendous pain in the foot when standing or walking.

Symptoms

The most common symptom of this condition is pain in the foot when standing. In general, you will notice the pain goes away when you sit down or rest your feet. Pain may intensify when walking. You may also experience a feeling of tightness in the bottom of the foot.

How Can A Chiropractor Help

This type of condition does not respond well to simple pain medication. The tendon must be unknotted for healing to take place. Chiropractic care can provide you with all-natural treatments to resolve this problem.

Massage therapy is a common treatment option for this condition. Through professional massage, the plantar fascia can be unknotted and relaxed. This can bring almost immediate pain relief to this problem.

Plantar fascia exercises are also very beneficial. Our team is trained to know exactly how to exercise the muscles surrounding the fascias to help relieve pain and strengthen the foot.

What About Orthodics?

Another treatment option for this condition is orthotics. Orthodics are specially designed shoe inserts that you can wear in your shoes to relax the plantar fascia. These inserts will hold the arch of the foot at the appropriate angle so that the plantar fascia does not experience unnecessary pressure and strain.

You can also have orthotics specially designed for your foot. These types of specially designed inserts are helpful for those dealing with severe plantar fasciitis. In some cases, surgery may be needed to unknot the tendon.
