Push, Don't Pull


A common way people injure their low back is by trying to move a heavy object by pulling it. This could happen at work, at home, at the grocery store… just about anywhere.


Pulling puts more pressure on your shoulders, neck, and back. Also, if you are pulling a cart or large item, you may run the heavy object into your ankle and your Achilles tendon causes other damage to your body. You may also twist your wrist or your back from pulling the object. It’s not worth harming your body.


Pushing a heavy object (like a loaded cart) is much safer. When you push, you are putting less effort on your body. You are also more likely to have a clearer range of vision, preventing you from tripping and falling. If you are able to use an assistive device, such as a cart or hand truck, this could help put less effort on your body as well.
