Sacramento Chiropractor concerned about you in your car

Many of you know that I take care of many people who have been banged-up in auto accidents.  Car accidents can do some serious bodily damage.   Since injuries often necessitate x-rays, MRI's and referrals to other specialists, medical costs can add up very quickly. It can also take a fair amount of specialized chiropractic treatment and time to get back to normal again.  The costs of that can add up too. Often the best treatment care, especially when it comes to chiropractic, is not adequately covered by major medical plans like Kaiser that so many people have. That can be a problem.

This year, we have seen way too many people woefully un-prepared financially to get the care they need.  I keep up my continuing education and read many newsletters, etc. related to personal injury. I have learned a few things this year that may be of interest to you.

Factoid of the day:

Of some 26 million drivers in California, some 2 million do not even have a valid driver’s license. Most if not all of course, also do not bother to have insurance.  Many millions more do have insurance, but only have the bare-bones minimum, as required by the DMV.  If one of these folks run into you, and there is anything serious with injury to you or your loved ones, you are going to have to cover the costs of care on your own, as well as bear the potential costs of lost work, and the pain and suffering by yourself.

There's protection against this possibility. It is recommended that you have at least $100,000 in UM or "un-insured/underinsured" on your personal auto insurance policy. It is also recommended to have at least $5,000 in what is called "Medical Payments" coverage. This typically covers costs like ambulance rides, ER visits, and chiropractic care. Adding medical payments usually only raises your premiums about $10 a month. It's a very good deal.

Be careful out there, and get with your insurance agent to make sure you are protected.
