car accident

Car accidents are never planned, but unfortunately they do happen. Our goal here at Avalon Park Chiropractic is to educate our patients on what to do in the event of a car accident so the injuries sustained do not become lifelong problems.

During an auto accident, injuries sustained do not always show immediate symptoms. Due to the adrenaline that occurs during the accident, you might not notice the pain or discomfort for a day or two, and sometimes even longer. Never assume that the pain will fade without treatment. Back and neck injuries worsen over time when you do not seek treatment and get appropriate care.

Our doctors have extensive training in soft tissue injuries and follow specific protocols of treatment when dealing with auto accident injuries. Working together with a team of medical doctors, radiologists, neurologists and orthopedics’, we make sure that our patients get the well rounded care they deserve and return back to the condition they were in before the accident in the quickest time possible.

Whiplash Injury

Whiplash injury to the neck or cervical sprain/strain is by the far the most common injury that results from a car accident.

Whiplash refers to a specific type of neck injury that occurs when your head moves suddenly forward and backward. It causes a strain or a sprain in the ligaments and muscles of your neck, which results in pain and discomfort. Though the initial pain and discomfort will go away over time, it is important to seek care as soon as possible to make sure there are no damages to the nerves and discs of the neck as these can lead to lifelong problems that may result in the need of surgery if not treated early and properly.

Common signs of whiplash include:

  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Ringing in the ears
  • Neck pain
  • Numbing and/or sharp pain in the arms
  • Pain and tightness in the shoulders
  • Vomiting

Back Pain Following a Car Accident

The biomechanics of our spine are not designed to withhold the amount of trauma our soft tissues incur during a car accident. Whether it’s 5 Mph or 50 Mph, the forces still go through our bodies and can cause lifelong problems.

It is easy to overlook an injury, especially if you notice occasional and intermittent pain rather than chronic long lasting pain. A car accident injury causes low back discomfort, pain and difficulty moving. Even injuries that seem minor, like a slight pain and tension in your lower back, can worsen without appropriate treatment and care.

Back Injuries After a Car Accident Include:

  • Herniated Discs
  • Bulging Discs
  • Pain shooting down the legs
  • Sciatica (Nerve Pain)
  • Numbing and sharp pain
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Muscle spasm and tightness

PIP Benefits

Description: pip call.jpg

Because Florida is a no fault state, it means that even if you are at fault during a car accident you can still receive Chiropractic and medical care.

Your personal injury benefits are made up of a small portion of the money you pay monthly to your car insurance company and that is what is used to cover medical costs in the event of an accident. But in order to obtain the benefits you have already paid for, you must seek care no later than 14 days after the accident.

Our staff is here to help you with any questions you may have regarding your auto accident or insurance coverage. If you or anyone you know was involved in a car accident, we will be more than happy to help and offer a free consult with one of our doctors.
