Spinal Decompression Stretches (Eldoa)

                      eldoa

The ELDOA exercises are specific techniques created by the French osteopath, Guy Voyer, for the purpose of releasing physical tension in the myofascial as well as increasing space between structures in the human body such as joints and discs in the spine. This increase in space is also known as Decoaptation. Dr. Voyer developed an ELDOA exercise for every joint in the spine starting at the base of the skull and ending with the sacrococcygeal joint. ELDOA is not limited to the spine and is efficient at Decoaptation of all the viscera and all the peripheral joints in the human body. It is possible to create more room in a particular articulation with an exact position adapted to each person.

The importance of using a certified practitioner is imperative to learn the nuances of each posture/position. It is necessary for the instructor to introduce appropriate factors of progression and to continually manage and cue patients to insure accuracy and affect the targeted outcome and maximize the benefits that are possible with ELDOA stretching.

ELDOA (Étirements Longitudinaux avec Decoaptation OsteoArticulaire), or more easily translated to Longitudinal Osteo-Articular Decoaptation of the Spine. ELDOAs are postural self-normalizing techniques designed for widening the space within a chosen articulation. This is accomplished by creating fascial tension to fix the vertebrae below and contraction in extreme range to normalize the vertebra above the targeted disc.

Benefits of ELDOA stretching and exercises:

  • Injury Recovery and Prevention
  • Reduced Joint Inflammation
  • Increased Disc Hydration and Blood Flow
  • Improved Posture
  • Normalized Disc Bulges
  • Reduced Degrees of Scholiosis
  • Increased flexibility

  • Normalization of Visceral Function
  • Relief of Chronic and Acute Back Pain
  • Relief of Neck and Shoulder Tension
  • Improved Awareness and Overall Wellbeing
