Lower Back Pain

lower-back-pain

People don't just rush into surgery, especially when they are suffering from lower back pain. Nearly everybody prefers conservative treatment for such an injury or condition. That is how our chiropractor, Dr. Rod Merritt, cares for his patients at his clinic outside of Columbus in Hilliard, OH. No potentially addictive medications are prescribed, and his chiropractic treatment for patients does not involve surgery. We focus our practice on the bones, vertebrae, spinal discs, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves in the spine and provide effective hands-on treatment.

Treating the Cause

Whether your complaints of back pain involve a displaced vertebra or spinal disc in the lumbar spine, a consultation and examination with Dr. Merritt is a great start. We will perform a comprehensive examination and determine the cause of your lower back pain. We will create a customized treatment plan designed to provide pain relief and support the healing process.

Dr. Merritt will administer the treatments with hands-on gentle spinal adjustments coupled with other therapies like massage or electronic stimulation therapy. Misaligned vertebrae and spinal discs are returned to where they are intended to be, and compression of spinal nerves is reduced. The pain will subside and your range of motion will be restored.

Chiropractic Care for Sciatica

Sciatica can interfere with a person's daily life. It can also be debilitating. The sciatic nerve consists of five different nerves that merge into one nerve near the buttocks. When a person experiences sciatic nerve pain, they are likely to suffer some of the following symptoms:

  • Consistent pain from the area near one hip that runs across to the buttocks
  • Tingling or a burning pain running down a leg
  • Weakness of the affected leg
  • Lower back and leg pain when sitting, standing, or walking

Treating Sciatica

Sciatica is typically caused by irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve by a displaced or herniated spinal disc. Our chiropractor adjusts the spine by hand to allow the displaced or herniated disc to return to its proper position. Additional therapies may also be used. Once the disc is returned to its intended position, pressure on the sciatic nerve and pain are reduced or eliminated, the nerve signals are restored, and mobility is significantly increased.
