The negative effects that alcohol have on breast cancer risk appear to modulated by a higher intake of fiber, in particular vegetable fiber. This recent study points out why we need to look at the actions of nutrients in the context of how they are consumed. Most nutrition studies are just studying one nutrient at a time and how it affects health. This is not how people consume nutrients. Having a glass of wine with a fiber rich meal will not be as detrimental as having a glass of wine with a low fiber meal, such as meat with no vegetables.
