Fructose, glucose and mice

A recent study published in Scientific Reports found that mice on a high fructose, but not glucose diet, gained weight and fat, and became more sluggish. Two groups of mice were studied for 2 1/2 months. One group's diet derived 18% of calories from fructose, the equivalent of what a teenager in the US would consume, the other received 18% of calories from glucose. Both groups had the equivalent caloric intake and the same amount of sugar. We don't know how this affects humans. Aside from high fructose corn syrup, which also contains glucose, fruit is high in fructose. However, fruit also comes packed with other phytonutrients. However, we do know that too much fruit or fruit juice can also contribute to weight gain and high blood sugar.
