Fibromyalgia and Vitamin D

A recent article in the journal PAIN states that those suffering from fibromyalgia may find some reduction in pain vitamin D3 supplementation. The study was a randomized placebo controlled study done on 30 women with FMS and vitamin D levels below 32 ng/ml. Those women given vitamin D3 supplements and who achieved serum vitamin D levels between 32 and 48 ng/ml had significantly less pain than the placebo group.

Most medical doctors will give patients high doses of vitamin D2, whereas most of the successful research has been done using vitamin D3. D2 is available by prescription, D3 is available as a supplement in is more "bio-identical" to what we humans use as vitamin D.

People with fibromyalgia very often benefit from a functional medicine approach to treatment. I am a certified functional medicine practitioner.
