Fish Oil and Prostate Cancer

UCLA researchers published a study in Cancer Prevention Research that found that men with prostate cancer who consumed a low fat (15%) diet and took 5 grams of fish oil per day had lower levels of pro-inflammatory substances in their blood and a better prognosis. Incorporating fish oil in the diet changed the composition of the cell membranes and lowered inflammation. Fish oil has been found to be beneficial for people with other inflammatory conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis. By the way, this study was far more specific and better designed than the large study that came to the erroneous conclusion that fish oil was associated with increased prostate cancer.
